OCO Monitoring Visits
The OCO routinely inspects all Washington State prisons and reentry centers to assess and report on facility conditions and treatment of people who are incarcerated.
How Monitoring Works
Monitoring is critical for ensuring the safety of all people inside. It is a proactive process meant to provide early identification of concerns about conditions and ill-treatment. All facilities are inspected, not just those with known problems. Monitoring visits are also an important way we stay connected with the incarcerated population.

Cedar Creek Corrections Center- Littlerock, Wa.
OCO staff: Ollie Webb, Finn Shinnick, Zak Kinneman and David Skattebo
OCO action: OCO staff toured the medical facility and met with incarcerated in B unit and follow up on reported issues. OCO staff discussed issues with Associate Superintendent and Correctional Program Manager. OCO staff also conducted cell fronts with individuals in the restrictive housing and medium units and provided self-advocacy information. OCO staff also met with the Superintendent.

OCO action: OCO staff met with individuals cell front in the Close Observation Area (COA) and met with individuals in restrictive housing with complex OCO cases.

OCO action: OCO staff conducted a follow up visit in R5 and spoke with individuals in the tiers affected. Attended the Concerned Lifer’s meeting, discussions and questions about pending legislation.

OCO action: OCO staff visited individuals in the G, X, COA and L units on “The Hill”

OCO staff: Madison Vinson and Jacob Marley
OCO action: OCO staff met with the Superintendent, other WSP staff and with individuals in the IPU, COA, Victor and Williams units. Toured the Sustainable Practices Lab.

OCO action: OCO staff visited the X, G units and spoke with individuals and staff members about issues relating to smoke and unusually hot temperatures for Western WA. OCO spent time with the Superintendent. OCO staff visiting minimum security units noting that fans and additional measures were being taken to cope with the heat.
