OCO Monitoring Visits
The OCO routinely inspects all Washington State prisons and reentry centers to assess and report on facility conditions and treatment of people who are incarcerated.
How Monitoring Works
Monitoring is critical for ensuring the safety of all people inside. It is a proactive process meant to provide early identification of concerns about conditions and ill-treatment. All facilities are inspected, not just those with known problems. Monitoring visits are also an important way we stay connected with the incarcerated population.

OCO action: OCO staff met with individuals’ cell front in segregation and connected with one of the PEAR-CAT members to share updates while at the facility.

Airway Heights Corrections Center - Airway Heights, Wa.

OCO action: OCO staff met with individuals in their living units, and visited the new SAGE units which relocated from Coyote Ridge Corrections Center for closer access to local hospitals. OCO also attended the annual pride event.

OCO action: OCO staff met with facility leadership to discuss staffing and living unit changes. OCO staff also met with individuals in the IMU and in the education building.

OCO action: OCO staff met with facility leadership, toured the facility and met with individuals who reside at this reentry center.

OCO action: OCO staff made a visit to the infirmary and met with the Associate Superintendent.

Clallam Bay Corrections Center - Clallam Bay, Wa.

OCO action: OCO staff toured the medical facility and met with incarcerated individuals in B unit to follow up on reported issues. OCO staff discussed reported issues with facility leadership and met with the Superintendent. OCO staff also conducted cell fronts with individuals in the restrictive housing and medium units and provided self-advocacy information.
